Cyclist attacks taxi driver and passenger in Glasgow

Police are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver and his passenger were assaulted by a cyclist in Glasgow. Between 1415 and 1445 hours on Tuesday afternoon, a blue Skoda Octavia taxi, driving in the taxi lane south on Eglington St, had just come to a halt at the traffic lights at Eglinton St at Kilbirnie St, when the rear seat passenger in the taxi was punched in the face by a male cyclist also stopped at the lights. The 30 year old male taxi driver got out of the car to see what was happening when he too was punched in the face by the cyclist who then made off on his bike in an unknown direction. The injured driver went to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was treated for a fractured cheekbone/eye socket and a broken nose. The rear seat passenger sufferered minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.
The cyclist is described as white, of slim build, dark grey eyes and had a local Scottish accent. He was wearing an all in one 'cycling' suit but no helmet and rode a blue and white bike. Detective Constable Kenny MacEwan, Cathcart CID: "It would appear that the rear seat passenger and the cyclist had some sort of altercation as the car stopped at the lights and the cyclist assaulted him and then the taxi driver. "I am sure there would have been other cars at the junction at the time of the incident so I would ask that they, or anyone who has information that will help our enquiry, contact the CID at Cathcart Police Office via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.
