Cyclist left unconscious after assault by youths in Clydebank

We are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was assaulted in the Dumbarton Road area of Clydebank on Wednesday, 5 June, 2024.

Around 4.45pm a 54-year-old male cyclist accidentally collided with two male youths on off-road dirt bikes who were wearing balaclavas.

The male youths then assaulted the man before making off, leaving the victim unconscious.

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital to be checked over.

Chief Inspector Kirsten McLatchie said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened to please get in touch.

“We are aware of public concern around the use of off-road and e-bikes in the area and it is vital that we speak to members of the pubic with any information which could help us tackle this issue effectively.

“We would urge anyone who sees these bikes being driven in a dangerous manner in a public place to take note of the location, description of the rider, type of bike and anything else notable and pass this onto officers. This information is crucial and enables us to alert our partners and attempt to identify those involved.

“Anyone with information regarding this incident or the illegal use of these bikes in the area is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2726 of Wednesday, 5 June, 2024. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
