Crew working to contain chemical leak from van in hospital car park

Part of a hospital has been cordoned off as firefighters deal with a chemical leak from a van in the car park.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the New Victoria Hospital, in the Battlefield area of Glasgow, at around 10.25am on Wednesday.

The hospital is operating as normal but the main door has been closed off as a precaution, police said.

The van is parked in the above ground car park.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: `The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is currently working to contain a chemical leak issuing from a van within the car park of Victoria Hospital in Glasgow.

`Operations Control immediately mobilised four appliances and an environmental protection unit after the alarm was raised at 10.25am on Wednesday.

`Crews are working with emergency service colleagues to make the area safe.'

There have been no reports of any injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: `The main door has been closed off as a precaution and is expected to remain inaccessible for some time.

`However the hospital is operating as normal and the fire service is dealing with the spillage.'
