Cranhill Murder Accused 'Unfit To Stand Trial'

THE man accused of murdering Jean Campbell at a park in Glasgow's east end has been deemed unfit to stand trial. At the High Court in Glasgow, judge Lord Matthews set an examination of facts to take place. Paul Ward, 21, who is accused of the murdering Mrs Campbell on December 13, 2013, at Cranhill Park in Glasgow's east end, will be not be present at the hearing, which is not a trial. The hearing which is expected to last two weeks is taking place without a jury. Ward has been deemed mentally unfit to stand trial and is detained at the State Hospital at Carstairs. Advocate depute Alex Prentice QC called scene examiner Kevin O'Hare to give evidence. The court was shown images and footage of the scene at a disused children's play area in Cranhill Park where Mrs Campbell's body was discovered. Pictures showing flip flops and items of clothing strewn in the area and a dog lead, were shown to the court. The hearing was also shown Mrs Campbell's body with apparent injuries on her. On a map the court was shown Paul Ward's address a few streets away. The examination of facts continues.
