Councillors in South Lanarkshire are meeting later agree how they'll spend money on bin collections and keeping the roads in good condition over the next 12 months.

They've got a £37m spending gap to fill over the next three years.

David Cameron from Uddingston has been campaigning against proposals to reduce the number of music tutors in schools.

He told Clyde 1: "Recent plans in Stirling were rejected and so we are all hoping the same conclusion will be reached here.

"I understand that local authorities are under increasing pressure because of aging populations and increased demand on public services.

"However, they've all had bigger funding settlements this year which I hope will make these decisions slightly easier."

The boss of the council, Joe Fagan, says the local authority been working hard to deliver a balanced budget this year.

He told Clyde 1: "We've asked our officials to look again at proposals to reduce the music service and I am looking forward to sharing with the public the outcome of that exercise.

"This will be the first time that I've put forward a budget in the knowledge that core funding has increased.

"It's not by enough to undo the damage done through the austerity years, but it will help the council to make fairer choices."
