Hundreds of schools and early years establishments across Scotland are to close for three days next week due to industrial action.

Janitors, cleaning staff, catering teams and support workers are amongst those taking strike action in a row with COSLA over pay.

It means many schools will not be able to operate safely and will be forced to close.

A total of 12 councils are expecting to be hit by education and early years staff strikes.

Meanwhile, teachers in the EIS – Scotland’s largest teaching union – are also to be asked if they back taking strike action.

The following will be closed from 6th to 8th September and reopen on 9th September:

Glasgow

All primaries, nurseries and ASN schools will be closed.

Secondary schools will remain open but there will be no breakfast clubs, hot school meals or after-school care.

Inverclyde

All schools and early years centres will be closed, with no childcare or breakfast clubs available.

North Lanarkshire

All early years establishments, nurseries, primary, secondary and additional support needs schools will be closed.

Online learning will take place over the closures.

Stirling

South Lanarkshire

All nurseries, primaries, secondaries and ASN establishments will be closed.

Elsewhere in Scotland

Strike action is also taking place in Aberdeenshire, Angus, Dundee and Clackmannanshire.

Aberdeenshire has not confirmed any closures and Angus council says it still expects to be able to open its schools.

Which local authorities are not striking?

No strike action is being taken in Argyll and Bute, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, North Ayrshire or Renfrewshire.
