Police officer injured in promotion playoff clash in Ayr
A fight broke out before Ayr United's game against Partick Thistle
A police officer was injured during clashes before Friday night’s playoff game at Somerset Park which ended Ayr United’s promotion hopes.
Police Scotland says it was sent to break up an incident happening on River Street at 7.15pm, shortly before kick off in the second leg match between Ayr United and Partick Thistle.
A statement from the force says one officer suffered minor injuries during the incident.
Enquiries are ongoing to trace those involved.
Partick Thistle won the game 2-0, giving them a 2-1 lead over the two legs of the playoff.
'Unacceptable behaviour'
Chief Inspector Stuart Dougan said “A proportionate policing plan was in place for the match and no further issues were identified, but I want to make it clear we have a zero-tolerance approach to disorder such as that seen at River Street.
“Officers acted swiftly in challenging circumstances to deal with what amounted to totally unacceptable behaviour.
“A dedicated team of officers are carrying out enquiries to identify those involved and appropriate action will be taken.”
