A man from Clydebank is being called a hero after jumping out his car to give CPR to another man who was slumped over his steering wheel on the Erskine Bridge at the weekend.

Robert Adams was on his way to a garage to sell his partner's car when he spotted a car had stopped at the side of the road.

He parked up and looked through the window of the other car and saw the man was blue in the face.

Robert said: "It looked as if he'd had a heart attack and the police instructed us not to break the window of the car because the emergency services were getting there soon.

"However, it looked as though there were no signs of life so I thought I had to do something and so I went back to my car to get a wheel brace to break the window of his car."

When Robert pulled the man from his car he checked for signs of life and there were none.

He added: "I started performing CPR and another guy appeared to help direct traffic over the bridge.

"After around 3 minutes I started to see signs of life again and then around another 2 minutes later he started to breath on his own but he was still pretty weak."

When the emergency services arrived they allowed Robert to continue performing CPR on the man to keep the pattern going.

Robert added: "Once the paramedics took over the firemen congratulated me.

"Being called a hero is lovely, but I don't accept that title because I was just in the right place at the right time with the right training."
