A 10-year-old boy has been left shaken after an incident on his way home from school in Clydebank.

The child was walking on Abbeylands Road last Thursday around 3.30pm when a yellow car stopped beside him.

A man got out and spoke to him, causing the youngster distress.

A van then drove by, which prompted the man to get back into the car and drive off.

The boy made his way home and told his parents who contacted the police.

The man is described as having dark hair and a local accent. He was wearing jogging bottoms and a hoodie with the hood up. He also had a tattoo on his right hand.

Detective Constable Scott Thain from Clydebank CID said: “The young boy was not injured during this incident but it was still a frightening experience for him and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened and why the man stopped to speak to him.

“One line of enquiry is that this may have been a case of mistaken identity and I would appeal to the man who stopped to speak to the child to come forward to assist with our enquiries.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area around 3.30pm last Thursday and may have noticed a yellow car, or anything at all out of the ordinary, to get in touch.

“Anyone with information can contact Clydebank CID via 101, quoting incident number 2802 of Thursday 15 March 2018. Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence."
