Drivers are being warned to expect disruption on the roads later as climate protestors take to the streets of Glasgow.

They are marking the one-year anniversary of COP26 in the city and highlighting the "failures" of governments to help reach net-zero targets.

"Governments used COP26 as a way to green-wash their own inadequate action"

Saoi O'Connor from Fridays For Future is taking part and told Clyde 1: "We really feel last year's conference did not bring what people were demanding of it and did not achieve anything it set out to do.

"Governments used COP26 as a way to green-wash their own inadequate action on climate change.

"It is important for Glasgow to continue to reject the use of the city and COP26 as a false narrative for tackling what is happening to our world."

Last year during the two-week event, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of Glasgow with banners, flags and made passionate speeches to raise awareness of the climate emergency.

Demonstrators took to the streets during COP26 last November.

Saoi added: "People in the global north are extremely privileged not to have experienced the worst effects of the climate crisis yet.

"The heat wave in the UK this summer was obviously as a result of global warming and very scary.

"However, we have not experienced disasters like the flooding in Pakistan.

"We have time and privilege and we can fight back and that is so important because it is so much more difficult to do so if you are already having to deal with your community being devastated.

"People are being forced to migrate from their homelands."
