Staff at the Cineworld's IMAX at Glasgow Science Centre have been left devastated, after finding out on social media the cinema isn't set to reopen.
The news broke last night in a tweet, where Cineworld replied to a customer to say "Hi RGC, the IMAX at The Science Centre will not be reopening we're afraid".
One staff member told Clyde 1: "It was a bit gut-wrenching to see information like that on Twitter when we're still waiting to find out anything about our jobs or anything about what's going on.
"Most of our frustration is just the complete lack of communication from Cineworld in making these big decisions which impact our lives and our financial security."
Another worker said: "I knew the Science Centre were doing a refurb and I just imagined we'd be opening when they opened but hadn't been told anything - so I assumed we'd be opening maybe a few weeks later."
"It didn't shock me because this is how we've been receiving our information the entire year.
"When I found out about it shutting, I was devastated but repeatedly we have found out very important information via Twitter and newspapers, and we have been the last people to know."
We understand the cinema chain has since got in touch with employees in the last couple of hours to confirm the IMAX and Starbucks will not reopen, and staff will be relocated to other sites in Glasgow.
A spokesperson for Cineworld said: "'Cineworld can confirm that we are no longer operating the IMAX at the Glasgow Science Centre and are planning to surrender our lease.
"All of the employees impacted are being offered alternative employment at other Cineworld branches. Our cinemas in Glasgow Renfrew Street, Glasgow Silverburn and Glasgow Parkhead will be re-opening on the 19th May.''
