A Paisley charity worker remarked “poor next girlfriend” after apparently breaking up with the man who stands accused of killing her.

Alyson Watt made the comment around a week before she was allegedly murdered by ex-soldier Gary Brown.

The pair were said to have had relationship difficulties amid claims Miss Watt may have kissed another man.

Brown is on trial charged with the murder of the 52 year-old Barnardo's worker at her home in Paisley in June last year.

The 55 year-old admits killing her - but claims he was suffering from an “abnormality of the mind” at the time.

Miss Watt's colleague Samantha King today gave evidence at the High Court in Glasgow.

The women had exchanged texts in March 2017.

They included claims Miss Watt may have “kissed” or “snogged” someone during a night out.

Jurors were previously told Brown had “read messages” on Miss Watt's phone before asking his own friend what he thought a “drunken kiss” meant.

The court heard today that Miss Watt went on to claim to her colleague in late May 2017 that Brown apparently had an issue with the “text thing”.

Miss King told the trial: “I think during that period that they had been on and off.”

Miss Watt was said to have been “heartbroken”.

The trial then heard that the couple had met via online dating site Match.com.

Miss Watt was said to have then messaged Miss King around a week before her death.

She stated she would put her “profile” back on the site and “wink at him”.

Miss King suggested Miss Watt should have a look to “see if he is on”.

Miss Watt replied “oh believe me, he will be” adding: “poor next girlfriend”.

She later died in June last year after suffering 42 stab wounds.

Brown, of Uddingston, near Glasgow, denies murder and attempting to kill a 16 year-old boy on the same day.
