Charity football match in memory of Clydebank teen Paige Doherty

A charity football match will be held in memory of schoolgirl Paige Doherty who was killed.

A charity football match will be held in memory of schoolgirl Paige Doherty at Glasgow Green this Thursday night.

Glasgow City Academy football club have announced they will be playing and supporters are asked to come along for the 8pm kick-off. The football club are also asking anyone who is attending to wear something pink in memory of Paige.

There will also be a balloon release after the match and balloons will be on sale on the evening.

Any profit from the charity match will go to the Doherty family; organisers say they expect that people will come from all across Glasgow to watch the match.

Thousands of members of the public have shown their solidarity with the family of teenager Paige Doherty by joining a social media tribute site.

Almost 14,000 people have signed up to the Pout for Paige group on Facebook, leaving tributes to the 15-year-old and messages for her friends and family.

People have also been posting tributes on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #poutforpaige.

A search was launched when Paige, from Clydebank, after she was reported missing on the 19th of March. Her body was found two days later in bushes at the side of Great Western Road.

A 31-year-old man appeared in court on Saturday charged with the murder of the teenager.

John Leathem made no plea during a private hearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.
