Police probe into missiles thrown at James Tavernier in Celtic- Rangers match
Former Parkhead manager Neil Lennon has slammed those responsible
Police have confirmed they’re investigating after Rangers captain James Tavernier was showered with objects in yesterday's Old Firm game.
A number of items were thrown at the full back as he attempted to take a corner - one of which was reportedly a marijuana grinder – in front of the section of the ground that houses Celtic’s ultras group.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of items thrown during the match at Parkhead on Saturday, 11 May, 2024. Enquiries into the matter are ongoing.”
Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has hit out at those responsible. Speaking on Sky Sports he said: ‘It is totally wrong. It is unnecessary, it is awful. Players’ safety on the football field is paramount for me.
“To see scenes like this angers me. He doesn’t deserve it. He is a footballer who is doing his job. Just leave him alone and let him get on with his football.
“I don’t know what it was. I hear it’s a marijuana grinder or something like that. I don’t want to make light of it. It is unacceptable and we don’t want to see it.
“What happens if he gets hit? What happens if he gets hit on the eye or gets a cut or something?”
