Celtic fans face major travel disruption ahead of semi-final

Supporters were left queuing around the block due an increased demand for trains from Glasgow to Edinburgh.

Celtic supporters have experienced rail disruption ahead of their League Cup semi-final against Hearts.

Many fans were left fearing they'd miss the kick-off after they were forced to join lengthy queues at Glasgow Queen Street Station.

A number have taken to social media to complain about ScotRail’s service and the fact that trains are only half-hourly.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: “We have extra trains and additional services in place throughout the day to help supporters travel to both semi-finals, but given the numbers involved services are very busy. We are doing everything we can to get our customers where they need to be.”

There have also been complaints that, due to huge demand, packed trains to the capital were refusing to stop at certain stations leaving fans stranded.

One supporter said on Twitter: “800 fans stranded in Motherwell the train is refusing to stop! No way of getting to game.”

However ScotRail stated that the train which was unable to stop at Motherwell was a Cross Country service and wasn’t the responsibility of ScotRail.

They rail company had warned football fans, ahead of Sunday’s fixtures, to plan their journeys in advance.
