The Scottish SPCA said: "We are appealing for information after a cat found in the G33 area of Glasgow had to have his eye removed after being shot with an air rifle.
"The cat, who has since been named George, is around 10 years old and thought to be a stray. He was initially reported to Cats Protection’s Glasgow branch due to an eye injury. Upon closer inspection, vets found an air rifle pellet and sadly, the eye had to be taken out.
"Owning an air rifle without a licence has been illegal since December 2016. We strongly support restrictions around air rifle ownership because of incidents like this.
"George is now in the care of Cats Protection receiving the care he needs. He is not currently available for rehoming.
"If you recognise this cat, or have any information on how he sustained this injury, please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999."
