Cat shot with a crossbow in Ayrshire
Magic the cat was targeted on Friday in Hurlford
A Hurlford family say they want to find the person responsible for shooting their cat.
The McMillan family took Magic to the vet on Friday thinking he has a piece of plastic stuck in his leg but the vet confirmed it was a crossbow bolt.
The animal needed an operation - where the medical team discovered the dart had pierced his spleen and although the procedure was a success he is not out of the woods.
The family has now been left with a vets bill coming to hundred of pounds, while their young daughter is terrified to go to the local park and the cat is very nervous and won't come near them.
They are now looking for the person who targeted the animal in the Cessnock Road to ask why.
The family have also contacted Police who say they're concerned that items like crossbows are for sale and we're being reminded they're not toys.
The family posted on a local Facebook page for people to help find the culprit.
Officers are also appealing for witnesses. You can contact Police on 101 if you have information.
