A cat was abandoned in a box in Motherwell on Sunday, July 10, alongside a sign that said 'free cat'.

The SSPCA has named her Friday, and is appealing for information.

Centre manager Peter Fleming said, “Friday was picked up from Greenfield Quadrant in Motherwell after a member of the public came across her.

“She was inside a wet cardboard box that had the words ‘free cat’ and ‘I am a housecat’ written on it.

“Friday is a beautiful girl who we think is around two years of age. She is in good condition and I just don’t understand why someone would abandon her like this.

“We will look after her until we can find her a loving new home.”

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
