Car parking for country parks in South Lanarkshire to reopen
Last updated 29th May 2020
Country parks are to become more accessible after South Lanarkshire Council announced car parks would be reopening.
As phase one of lifting lockdown restrictions begins today (Friday, May 29) vehicle access to some country parks, public parks and other popular destinations has been restored.
Chatelherault, Calderglen, James Hamilton Heritage Park, Lanark Loch, Strathaven Park, Lanark Racecourse, Tinto Hill and Greenhall Park will be able to welcome visitors from further afield again.
However, government guidance is to travel no more than five miles for exercise or leisure and physical distancing should be maintained when visiting parks.
All play parks in South Lanarkshire will remain closed during phase one and they won’t reopen until government guidance allows the council to do so.
There will be a phased reopening of golf courses but the exact dates have yet to be finalised. This affects Strathclyde Golf, Larkhall Golf, Langlands Golf, Torrance House Golf, Hollandbush Golf and Biggar Golf.
The council and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (SLLC) are also are finalising arrangements to re-introduce some other outdoor sports such as tennis.
General manager of SLLC, David Booth, said: “The easing of some of the restrictions we are currently facing is of course welcome news as we begin on the journey out of lockdown.
“However, please bear in mind the advice is you should only be travelling up to five miles by car to access our facilities and to think twice about driving to the most popular destinations given the limited parking available.
“Also, remember our indoor facilities, cafes, toilets, play parks will not be open and available to use.
“Please also still practice safe physical distancing and wash your hands before and after any journeys to our facilities.”
