A car involved in the stabbing of a man as he sat in a van has been found by police.
The 30-year-old victim was in the passenger seat of a grey Vauxhall Combo van in Torrance, near Bishopbriggs in East Dunbartonshire, when an Audi A4 stopped in front of the vehicle, blocking it in at around 5pm on Tuesday.
A group of men armed with knives got out of the car, smashed the passenger window of the van and assaulted the victim in what police said was a targeted attack.
The driver of the van, a 34-year-old man, drove off and stopped at the Asda on Kirkintilloch Road, Bishopbriggs, where an ambulance was called.
The victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to several stab wounds.
The blue Audi is now being examined by a forensic team after it was found abandoned on a farm track off the B821, between Carbeth and Blanefield.
Detective Sergeant Craig Warren said: "Extensive enquiries are continuing into this incident and I am now appealing for any further information on the Audi A4 which has been recovered.
"I would urge anyone who saw the x-registration blue Audi A4 on Tuesday or the morning of Wednesday June 20 in the East Dunbartonshire area where it crosses into Stirlingshire, or to anyone with any information on this vehicle to come forward to police.
"We are working to establish more details on the circumstances surrounding the incident and the motive, however we do believe that this was a targeted attack.
"Officers are also gathering CCTV footage from a number of areas and will study the footage to gather any further details.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Greater Glasgow CID through 101 quoting reference number 2809 of Tuesday June 19. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.'
