Police searching for a prisoner who escaped during a hospital visit have found a car they believe he fled in.
One G4S guard was left unconscious and another suffered an arm injury when Anthony Ferrie, an inmate from Addiewell prison in West Lothian, escaped from the grounds of St John's Hospital in Livingston last Thursday.
The 33-year-old has links to Bellshill and Motherwell in North Lanarkshire, and police say they have now found a Renault Megane, thought to have been used the day after the escape, in Stevenston Court, Motherwell.
The car was stolen from a house in Kaimes Brae, Livingston, on Friday and officers believe it is linked to Ferrie's escape. It was found in Motherwell at about 8.30pm on Sunday.
Detective Inspector Paul Batten said: "We had already been conducting inquiries within the Lanarkshire area and the discovery of this vehicle is of significant interest to our investigation to trace Anthony Ferrie.
"We are very keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing the individual who left the Renault Megane within Stevenston Court in Motherwell on Sunday evening, or who believes they may have seen Ferrie in this area.
"In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to our ongoing inquiry should also contact police.''
Ferrie is described as white, about 6ft and slim. He was wearing a blue sweater, jeans and trainers. Members of the public have been advised not to approach Ferrie but to contact police on 101.
