Detectives are appealing for information about a car involved in the abduction and assault of a man by a masked gang inEast Kilbride.

The 34-year-old victim was attacked by four men in Stewartfield Grove at about 11pm on Tuesday November 24.

He was then chased into McLean Crescent and forced into a dark car before being driven more than 20 miles to the Brownrigg Road area of Slamannan, Falkirk, where he was dropped off.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for serious injuries to his head, hands and feet following the "violent and terrifying'' attack.

Police working on the case have now interviewed more than 40 people as part of their investigation, which has revealed more details about the vehicle involved.

Officers believe the car - which has yet to be found - to be a Volkswagen Golf R, possibly dark blue or dark purple in colour.

Police think it is possible the vehicle could be parked up somewhere and they are asking people to be vigilant and report any sightings.

Following the incident, the car is believed to have left McLean Crescent, travelled up the East Kilbride expressway towards the Raith interchange and headed towards Airdrie before ending up in Slamannan.

Detective Inspector Kevin Jamieson said: "We continue to review CCTV images and have interviewed more than 40 people as part of the ongoing investigation.

"Now that we have additional information on the car, I am appealing to motorists who would have been travelling the same route of the VW Golf.

"At the time, people would have been unaware of its significance or that it had been used in the commission of a crime.

"Were you driving along the East Kilbride expressway on Tuesday November 24?

Perhaps you saw the driver and any passengers within, if you were in any of these areas and saw the car or have any information, then please do contact us.

"Additionally, I am appealing to the local community to listen out for any conversations related to the incident.

"Perhaps someone has said something in the last couple of weeks, perhaps you've heard something and are not sure whether to pass the detail onto police.

"Please don't think we have all the information we need, we are still piecing together what has happened and any information, no matter how small, could prove significant in our investigation. Let us judge how relevant the information is.''

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or speak to the incident room on 01355 564013.
