There is a warning thousands of illegal vape sales are going under the radar in Glasgow every year, according to a new report.

Just £400 in penalties were handed out to traders for selling e-cigarettes to underage children in the city between 2021 and 2023.

Sheila Duffy from ASH Scotland told Clyde 1: "The blame for underage sales lies with the companies who advertise without restriction and target their products at young people with bright colours.

"We need to shut down the marketing, visibility and promotion of these e-cigarettes because these things are enticing children into buying them."

The research by leading vape compliance firm, Arcus Compliance, also shows that there were no prosecutions made by Glasgow Trading Standards in the same time frame.

Sheila added: "We need these products to be taxed and we need to recognise they are drawing in a generation of children into an addiction that was declining.

"The blame lies with the companies making money from them."

We have asked the Scottish Government for a response.
