There are calls to permanently re-open an old railway tunnel in the West End of Glasgow which is being used in the new Batgirl movie.

Crews are using the abandoned Botanic Gardens train station as the set for a subway scene beneath Gotham City.

Labour MSP for Glasgow, Paul Sweeney, told Clyde 1: "This filming has clearly re-ignited interest in these old pieces of infrastructure then that is no bad thing.

"I think if the filmmakers are investing in putting all this stuff into the tunnels then maybe there is a way of creating a visitor attraction using some of the old props."

Paul Sweeney says there is a growing interest in the history of Glasgow's rail way network.

The history of Glasgow's rail way network has been growing in popularity over the last few years thanks to the Central Station tours.

Paul added: "There are lots of redundant tunnels around the city and presents a great legacy because if it means we want to expand our public transport system in the future then we already have something to work with.

"There are just so many opportunities here and if the Batgirl film is encouraging more people to use these bits of infrastructure then it is a fantastic thing for Glasgow."

Filming for Batgirl began in Glasgow last week in the city centre and Springburn.
