Caddie struck on head by stray golf ball at Royal Troon
A caddie has been taken to hospital after being hit on the head by a golf ball at Royal Troon.
The caddie for American Marco Dawson was taken to hospital on Tuesday after being hit on the head by an errant shot during a practice round for the Open Championship.
William Ciplinski was stood beside the green on the eighth hole at Royal Troon when he was hit by a ball struck from the seventh tee by three-time major winner Vijay Singh.
Tournament officials said Ciplinski was taken to a local hospital for overnight observation but was said to be talking and fully conscious after initially being taken to the on-site medical centre.
Dawson, 52, played more than 400 events on the PGA Tour without a win but qualified for the Open with victory in the Senior British Open at Sunningdale last year.
