Bus driver to stand trial over crash which killed Rangers fan in Kilmarnock
Ryan Baird died from his injuries back in October 2016
A bus driver is to stand trial charged with killing a Rangers supporter in a fatal crash.
Callum Phillips, 49 faced the accusation at the High Court in Glasgow.
Ryan Baird, who was 39, died as he and fellow fans headed to a match in October 2016.
Phillips is alleged to have “repeatedly driven” the bus at “excessive speed” before the accident in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire.
Prosecutors claim he went on to lose control of the vehicle causing it to skid then strike a kerb and drain cover.
It is further stated he also hit a lamp-post resulting in the bus coming to “a rest on its nearside on a grass verge”.
Mr Baird, of Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire, is described as being so badly hurt that he never recovered.
Other fans on the bus are also said to have been injured.
Phillips, of Dalbeattie, Dumfriesshire, is accused of causing death by dangerous driving.
He also faces two other accusations while being behind the wheel of a bus.
It is alleged he drove dangerously in early 2016 in New Cumnock, East Ayrshire.
Philips is said to have been speeding while taking a roundabout causing him to lose control.
It is then claimed in August 2016 near Rangers' Ibrox Stadium he was driving “without due care or attention” while negotiating a corner.
Phillips advocate Simon Gilbride entered not guilty pleas.
Judge Lord Mulholland set a trial due to begin in May.
Bail for Phillips was continued meantime.
