Burst water main in Milngavie cuts off water supply to 100,000 properties
Emergency services and Scottish Water engineers were sent to Auchenhowie Road this afternoon.
More than 40, 000 homes and businesses in Glasgow and Milngavie are still without water tonight because of a burst water main in Milngavie.
Supply to 100,000 properties in 12 postcode areas was knocked out when the 36" water main burst this afternoon.
Children from a local nursery were evacuated after it happened at the junction of Auchenhowie Road and Glasgow Road this afternoon - with the pressure causing the road's surface to split and flooding. Videos on social media showed the extent of the damage.
Lullaby lane nursery said children were safely taken to Rangers Training Ground
Emergency services and Scottish Water engineers are currently at the scene. While repairs to the main itself will take several days, the firm is hoping to have supply restored to affected areas by 10pm this evening (Tues)
Customers are experiencing no water, low pressure or discoloured water supplies.
Tonight the firm released a statement saying it hopes to have isolated the burst soon and implement changes to the network to restore supplies later this evening. It will then carry out an emergency repair as quickly as possible.
A Scottish Water spokeswoman said: “This is a major burst which is impacting a lot of our customers and we want to reassure them we are working as quickly as possible to carry out this repair and restore supplies. We apologise to all customers affected for the inconvenience and disruption.”
Although supplies should be restored within hours, repairs to the main itself and the damaged road could take several days.
