Burnt out BMW linked to attempted murder in Govan

Published 28th Aug 2018

Detectives investigating the attempted murder of a 59-year-old man in Riverview Drive on Saturday, 25 August 2018 continue to appeal for further information.

The incident took place around 7.20pm, when the 59 year-old man was approached by a man who attacked him with a knife. The suspect is described as white and of slim build. He was wearing a Burberry-style skip cap, black jacket, black jogging trousers and wore a black scarf around his face.

A number of witnesses have been traced who have stated that a black BMW car was also involved in this incident. The car had black or dark grey alloy wheels. The driver of the vehicle is described as being of stocky build and wearing a black jacket, possibly with a red collar. He also wore a black scarf over his face and a light coloured skip cap.

We also have information that there was a third man in Riverside Drive at the time of the incident who may also be involved, however we have no further description to release at this time.

A BMW three-series car was recovered by the police in a field close to Kingswell Fishery, Eaglesham Moor Road, Eaglesham on Sunday, 26th August 2018 at 11am. The car had been set on fire and it is believed that this is the vehicle used in the incident.

The location where the car was found burnt out is in reasonably close proximity to Whitelees Wind Farm, which is a local tourist spot popular, with dog walkers and visitors.

Police Scotland is appealing for any witnesses who may have seen a black BMW three series with similar alloys in the area of Riverview Drive or the surrounding area on the evening of Saturday, 25 Aug 2018.

It is believed the car would then have travelled at speed from the Govan area of Glasgow on the M77 motorway to the Eaglesham area. Any motorists who may have dashcam footage on their cars and have been in these locations or on this route are encouraged to contact the police.

Officers would also be keen to speak to anyone who was fishing at, or near to Kingswell Fishery on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

Detective Inspector Jim Bradley said: "Although the victim was the intended target, it does not make it any less shocking or concerning for local people in the vicinity of Riverside Drive.

"We are continuing to work to identify the men involved in this violent attack and are asking the public to cast their minds back to Saturday evening. Do you recognise the description of the men involved or do you remember witnessing a black BMW with the distinctive alloys in the area of Riverside Drive or the Eaglesham area? Please contact us if you have any information which could help with our enquiry."
