Detective Sergeant Stephen Tennant from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team (West) said: “I would like to reassure the public that we believe this to be a targeted attack on the victim and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the motive and full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Detectives have been carrying out door to door inquires and extra officers will be in the area to reassure the public.
“We cannot confirm the exact cause of the victim’s injuries at this time, however we have several reports of loud bangs in the area and one line of enquiry is that a firearm was involved.
It's believed Mr McCall was shot in the face and chest although police say they can't be sure what caused his injuries
“This type of reckless violence has no place in our communities and the fact that it happened in a busy residential area will undoubtedly cause concern. Additional patrols will be in the area to provide reassurance and the officers will be happy to assist so feel free to approach them.
“Support from members of the public is going to be absolutely vital to this investigation and I cannot stress enough how important it is that anyone who may have information about what happened comes forward.
“I would like to speak to anyone who was in Borgie Crescent or Cadoc Street last night and saw or heard anything at all suspicious. I would also ask anyone who was in Greenlees Road between 8.30pm and 9pm who may have noticed a car parked or anyone making off from the scene to get in touch.
“I am also appealing for any motorists with dashcams who were the area around the time of the incident last night and may have captured any footage of the incident to please contact police.
