Detectives investigating the attempted murder of a man in Springburn have found a burnt out car they think was used as the getaway vehicle. The 26 year-old was shot at and then stabbed around 4.30pm on Thursday. The two suspects escaped in a dark 4x4, which has been found in a remote country road near the A737 and Kirklee Green Reservoir in Ayrshire.

The car is now undergoing a forensic examination and police are appealing for anyone who saw it after the attack to come forward.

Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham said:

“Although we believe this attack was targeted, we still do not know the motive for the attempted murder. The victim remains in hospital and we continue to appeal for information.

“I am encouraged by the positive response we have had since our appeal and we are following up a number of lines of enquiry from information already passed on to us. However, I’m sure there are people out there with information about the incident and the suspects who have not contacted police and I would urge them to please get in touch. We cannot allow the use of firearms on our streets and it’s essential we trace those involved. Your information could prove to be the vital link in our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers based at London Road Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 2580 of Thursday 8 March 2018. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
