Janey Godley withdrawn from Aberdeen panto

Aberdeen Performing Arts say they and Janey Godley have mutually agreed for the comedian to withdraw from their production of the Beauty and the beast panto this Christmas.

It comes after controversy around offensive language used in historic tweets made by Godley.

Crossroads Pantomimes and Aberdeen Performing Arts in a statement said:

"Today 10 Sept Janey Godley, by mutual agreement with Crossroads Pantomimes and Aberdeen Performing Arts, has withdrawn from Beauty and the Beast at HMT Aberdeen this Christmas.

"We do not condone any form of discrimination, nor do we condone online bullying, trolling and abuse. We recognise that the only appropriate course of action in these circumstances was for her to step down.

"Earlier in the week Janey Godley apologised unreservedly for past comments she had made on social media.

"Further casting announcements for the pantomime will be made later in the year."

Earlier today we heard from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on the situation with Godley.

Advertisements featuring the comedian around Covid-19 regulations were pulled by the Scottish Government last night.
