Police are stepping up patrols in Kilmarnock after a 14-year-old boy was stabbed on Monday night.

The serious assault happened on Soulis Street at around 6.15pm, and the victim sustained injuries that could have been life-threatening if it hadn’t been for the immediate intervention of emergency services.

The boy was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where his condition is described as serious but stable.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Holland said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who may have information that can help our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened. If you saw any groups of youths in the town centre just before or after the attack, you may be able to help us.

“In addition, if you were driving in the area and have dash-cam footage that could assist our enquiries then please get in touch.

“We are treating this as an isolated incident and would like to reassure the wider community. Extra officers will be patrolling the area and we are following a positive line of enquiry.”
