Bomb Squad Stood Down After Dunoon Substances Declared Safe
Suspicious substances which sparked a police and bomb squad response when they were discovered near a town centre have been found to be safe.
Police officers discovered the suspicious substances during a routine call to a house in Castle Street in Dunoon, Argyll and Bute today.
They called for support from the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service as a precaution and cordons were put in place around the area.
The substances were examined and found to be safe, police said.
Police Scotland said there is nothing to suggest this incident is related to terrorism.
Tom A Mhoid Road has now reopened, although cordons remain in place in Castle Street.
Police said inquiries are continuing and there is no threat to the public.
A police spokesman said: Police Scotland can confirm police officers attended a routine call to a house in Castle Street, Dunoon.
They came across suspicious substances and as a precaution, officers requested assistance from the relevant experts at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD)."
Following examination, the substances were found to be safe.''
