Bomb disposal experts are examining a suspicious item found in a close in Uddingston yesterday afternoon.

Bomb disposal experts are examining a suspicious item found in a close in Uddingston yesterday afternoon. Emergency services were called around 4pm and a number of people around Myrtle Road were evacuated from their homes while the device was made safe.

No one was injured and detectives are appealing for witnesses to trace who left it there and why.

Detective Sergeant Diane Barr of Wishaw Police Office said: “Our enquiries are continuing today to trace whoever is responsible for leaving this item in the close and their motive. Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and are checking through CCTV footage to gather more information.

"At this time I would urge anyone who saw anyone in the area acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident, or has any information that may assist our investigation to contact Wishaw Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 2648 of 25th February.
