Police and forensic officers are in Airdrie this morning after a body was found near a war memorial.

Officers were called to the scene at around 8.15 am on Monday.

The body is believed to be that of a 48 year-old man.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.15am on Monday the body of 48 year-old man was found near the war memorial in Mulvey Crescent, Airdrie.

"A post mortem will take place in due course to establish exact cause of death.

"Police are treating the death as unexplained.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
