Thousands line the streets of Glasgow for Billy McNeill's funeral

Thousands of fans stood side by side with footballing legends to pay their respects to Celtic and Scotland legend Billy McNeill.

The funeral for the first British man to lift the European Cup took place at St Aloysius Church in Glasgow's Garnethill.

AMong the famous faces to attend were former Celtic manager Kenny Dalgleish, former Rangers manager Alex McLeish, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson who stopped to speak to the media outside...

Billy McNeill passed away in April at the age of 79 after battling dementia since 2010.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon attended along with the first team squad and members of the Celtic board, including Dermot Desmond.

The service was led by Archbishop Philip Tartaglia who said: "As Glasgow Celtic's most famous captain, Billy also belonged to another family, the Celtic family, who adored him as their hero and who mourn his passing."

After the service, the cortege made it's way to Celtic Park allowing fans to pay their respects.

Around ten thousand people gathered on the Celtic Way and burst into spontaneous applause as the herse arrived...

Celtic players will wear McNeill's former number five on their shorts when they face Hearts in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park on Saturday 25th May.
