Ben's shocking firework safety warning

The Cumbernauld boy lives with the scars after a rocket exploded in his pocket five years ago.

Clyde News is speaking to a young boy and his mum from Cumbernauld, five years after their world was turned upside down on bonfire night 2011.

Ben McCabe was four-years-old when he was injured by an rogue exploding firework inside his jacket. At aged 9 now, he still lives with permanent scars from the third degree burns on his chest and neck.

Just a few months ago he went for another skin graft which he will have to get done regularly as he continues to grow.

Mother Amy's issuing a warning to people having fireworks displays in their back gardens, that an accident could happen.

They've also joined forces with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents to warn of the dangers of unofficial displays and are thankful to the Scottish Burned Children's Club for all their support.
