Man on footpath hit by car in Bellshill

A man is in a serious but stable condition after he was hit by a car that drove onto a footpath in Bellshill.

The 37-year-old was walking near the roundabout on Mary Rae Road on Tuesday 6th February around 4.50pm when he was struck by a silver Volkswagen Up.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital where he is currently being treated for serious injuries.

The 72-year-old female driver was uninjured.

Police Constable Simon Reilly from the Divisional Road Policing Unit in Motherwell said: “A number of people were in the area when the incident happened, and although we have spoken to some of them, we are keen to trace the others.

“In particular there was an off duty doctor we believe stopped to help, and we would be keen to speak to them.

“We would urge any witnesses, or anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact the Road Policing Unit in Motherwell through 101, quoting reference number 2383 of Tuesday 6 February 2018.
