Bauer is joining forces with Skills Development Scotland to attract new talent into radio.

“Create A …” is a programme which will reach 24 young people and target underrepresented groups.

The youngsters will receive industry-based media training with a strong emphasis on transferable employability skills.

The new partnership will also lead to three of the trainees benefitting from paid placements to help them develop as assistant content creators. These placements will incorporate a personalised learning programme, taking into account individual’s interests and career ambitions.

The first trainees will begin the paid placement programme on Friday, 4 December, while Bauer and SDS will also conduct industry led research on the knowledge and skills requirement for entry level positions.

Graham Bryce, Group MD for Bauer Media in Scotland, said: “Creating compelling and engaging content across multiple platforms is a key focus of Bauer and it’s important we work to developing the right skills for the future workforce. The Create A… project is innovative work which will benefit the wider industry and something that only the Bauer Academy can do.”

David Martin, Key Sector Manager for Creative Industries at Skills Development Scotland, said: “For many entrants to Scotland’s vibrant creative sector, gaining some initial experience is that all-important first step on the ladder.

“That’s why this initiative has real potential to help a new generation of voices make a positive start to a potential career, increasing creative diversity and improving access to the wide array of skills it takes to be a success in the modern digital landscape.”
