'Devastated' employee claims Ayrshire firm was taking orders on morning staff let go
Irvine firm out of business after 85 years
An employee at an Irvine firm who suddenly stopped trading earlier this week claims the company was still accepting orders up until the MORNING they went out of business.
Mick Jennings worked for Andrew Wright Windows for six years before being told on Tuesday afternoon he no longer had a job.
Admitting the ‘devastating’ news came as a complete shock, Mick insists he was also assured the business had ‘years’ worth of work ahead and was trading with contractors on Tuesday morning.
Speaking exclusively to Clyde 1 Ayrshire, Mick says he doesn’t know where to turn to next.
He said: “I am still in a bit of shock from Tuesday, so is everybody if I’m honest with you.
“I feel bad really for the guys who have been there for 30, 40 years, because that’s all they’ve known.
“They’ve been there loyal to the company all that time.
“My foreman, my managers, didn’t know, nobody had a clue., everything was looking good.
“We were promised years of work there.”
Before adding: “They were still taking money from customers, regular customers, guys that run their own business, taking money from them right up until Tuesday morning.
“They had plenty of time to give us a heads up.”
The company, which has been operating for more than 85 years, confirmed the move with a brief statement on social media.
The business is believed to have employed around 100 members of staff - all of whom were informed the day before the online post when a meeting was called.
They have now been advised that they will receive letters with advice on claiming wages and outstanding holiday pay.
Andrew Wright Windows have been approached for comment.
