Ayrshire Bookies Raided At Gun Point On New Years Day

Police at Saltcoats are continuing enquiries following a robbery at a bookmakers in Dalry on Thursday 1 January 2015.

Around 1650 hrs on New Years day a man entered Coral Bookmakers, New Street, Dalry. He threatened the 20-year-old female and 26-year-old male shop assistants with what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money from them.

He then ran out of the shop with a three figure sum of cash leaving the staff uninjured but very shaken. The firearm was not discharged.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 8, medium build and was wearing a green/brown coloured Parka style jacket with a fur lined hood, dark trousers and dark coloured footwear. His face was partially covered with a scarf.

Detective Sergeant John Deans at Saltcoats CID said:

“We would like to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the culprit or anyone who may have seen him hanging about the area around the time of the robbery.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Saltcoats Police Office on 101 or alternately CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.

He added: “We have additional patrols in the area and are providing crime prevention advice to bookmakers.
