Attempted 'Armed' Robbery In Riddire

Published 1st Nov 2015

Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Riddrie. Around 11pm on Saturday last night, two masked men, armed with what was believed to be a firearm – BB Gun - threatened the two male staff, aged 41 and 25 years, at the Pricecutter store on Smithycroft Road, Riddrie, Glasgow, and demanded money.

However, they left empty handed after being chased from the shop by the staff into Ness St, Riddrie, Glasgow. The suspects were both of slim build and were wearing balaclavas and dark clothing. Detective Sergeant David Patrick, Community Investigation Unit, Pollok, said today: “Thankfully no one was injured in during the incident but it was very frightening for the two men in the shop. “We know from our enquiries that the suspects ran from the store and into a white car – not further described at the moment – parked on Ness St and before driving off at speed towards Cumbernauld Road. “There is a pub across from the store which we know was hosting a Hallowe’en party and there were a few people outside having a cigarette at the time. I would appeal to them to come forward to police as they may have information that will help our enquiries. “Officers have been checking CCTV in the area as well as carrying out door to door enquiries but we are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time or who has any information about the incident to contact police via 101 or in confidence to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
