Two people assaulted and robbed by fake police officer in Hamilton
They were pulled over by a dark coloured SUV in the early hours of Monday morning
A man impersonating a police officer has robbed and assaulted two people in Hamilton in the early hours of Monday morning.
A dark coloured SUV with blue and red lights pulled the victims over shortly after midnight in Strathclyde Park.
The suspect, who wore a police uniform, then told them to get out of their car and assaulted the male passenger.
He took the keys to their Mercedes but got in in his own SUV after the robbery, which was driven by another man.
Detective Constable Gary Lipscombe said: “I’m aware that the circumstances of the crime will be of a concern to the public, but rest assured we are working hard to identify the suspects.”
He also issued a reminder, that police carry warrant cards which members of the public can request to see.
The suspect, who did not present said card, is white, has blonde hair, a stubble and wore glasses.
There is no description available of the SUV’s driver.
DC Lipscombe urged anyone who might have seen anything suspicious to come forward.
He said: “Motorists with dash cams in particular, it is possible you could have captured images which could assist our investigation, so please check your footage.”
Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Wishaw Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 0002 of 13 January 2020.
