Armed robber makes off with cash from Greenock bookmakers

Detectives in Greenock are continuing enquiries following a robbery there on Sunday 29 April 2018. Around 9:30pm, a man, armed with a metal tool, entered Betfred Bookmakers in Newton Street, threatened two members of staff within and stole a four-figure sum of cash. Both members of staff were uninjured but have been left badly shaken by the incident.

The suspect is described as white, around 6 ft tall, a slim build, dark trousers and dark coloured top with the hood up. He was wearing yellow coloured gloves and spoke with an English accent. Following the incident, the suspect ran up Newton Street towards Nelson Street.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and collecting CCTV footage which will be reviewed for any additional information.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said: “It’s imperative we trace the man responsible for this crime. I am appealing to members of the local community to contact us if they saw anything or have any information which could assist our enquiries. Perhaps you saw the suspect hanging around outside the bookmakers, or did you see him run off, any small piece of information could be vital to our investigation.”
