The funeral of Archbishop Philip Tartaglia, head of the Catholic Church in Glasgow, will be held this week.

The 70-year-old died last week while self-isolating at home following a positive Coronavirus test, although a spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Glasgow didn't confirm a cause of death.

His body will be brought to St Andrew's cathedral tomorrow evening, which you can watch on the link below, before the funeral on Thursday.

Only 20 people are able to attend the funeral due to current Covid-19 restrictions, so the service is being streamed online allowing mourners to pay their respects from home.

A spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Glasgow said: “People are asked to comply with the current advice to stay at home and to participate spiritually using the live streams.

“Please continue your prayers for the repose of the Archbishop’s soul and for the comfort of his family.”

The vigil will be held at 6.30pm tomorrow and and the funeral mass will take place at midday on Thursday, via the link below.

The Archbishop's death drew tributes from prominent figures, including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who said: "I always valued my interactions with him and he will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with his loved ones and wider community. May he rest in peace."

He was a Celtic supporter and the club posted kind words on Twitter following his passing. They shared: "We are saddened to hear of the death of Archbishop Philip Tartaglia who was a huge supporter of the club and regularly attended matches at Celtic Park.

“Everyone at Celtic offers their sincere condolences to Philip’s family and Scotland’s Catholic community at this sad time."
