UPDATE: APRIL FOOLS

It’s being reported the historic Glasgow City Chambers could be sold off and turned into Scotland’s biggest and most spectacular leisure venue.

This Victorian masterpiece is recognised as one of the most beautiful in the UK and is a favourite among locals and tourists. The City Chambers is the focal point of George Square and is seen by many as an impressive symbol of Glasgow's political strength and historical wealth. Completed in 1888, the City Chambers for over a hundred years been the headquarters of successive councils serving the City of Glasgow.

Opened by Queen Victoria, it is now thought that the 14,000 square foot space will be converted into a 5000 capacity super-club, casino and luxury hotel.

Entertainment boss James Mortimer is believed to be behind a mutli-million pound plan to buy the Victorian building from the council which would move into the old police headquarters in Pitt Street and use cash from the sale to support public services in the city. The city council has so far made no comment.
