Appeal after shop assault in Rutherglen

Detectives are are continuing enquiries and appealing for witnesses after an assault with intent to rob in Rutherglen on Monday.

Around 8:30pm two men entered The Happy Approach in Hamilton Road and threatened the male shopkeeper with a weapon.

The shopkeeper ran from the shop to raise the alarm and the suspects left the shop empty handed and ran off in the direction of Wardlaw Drive.

The shopkeeper was uninjured but badly shaken as a result of the incident.

The first suspect is described as white, 18-20 years of age, 5ft 8 inches in height and wearing dark coloured clothing with a red scarf.

The second suspect is described as white, 18-20 years of age, 6ft in height and of slim build with grey tracksuit trousers and checked scarf.

Detective Constable Jim Waddell at Cambuslang Police Office said:

“Enquiries have been carried out in the local area and officers are checking CCTV footage to gather more information on this crime and the two men responsible.

“At this time I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have seen these two men acting suspiciously in the local area to contact Cambuslang Police Office through 101.”
