Friends of a man killed in Greenock have begun raising funds online to help pay for his funeral.

Lee Monaghan, who was 23, died after police were called to a disturbance in the town's Belville Street at about 23:20 on Wednesday.

On the Go Fund me page Stephen McDonald, who began the appeal wrote:

“Sadly on Wednesday 24th August our good friend Lee Monaghan (Mini) was taken from us in the most disgusting circumstances. Leaving behind his mum Sandra on her own.

“It’s times like this we all need to come together to help each other out and help Sandra to give lee the proper funeral he deserves. We know times are hard when it comes to money but every little penny help so we would all be eternally grateful if you could help out.”

Police have confirmed a 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Lee's death.
