A man is recovering in hospital after he was attacked in Larkhall last night.

A man is recovering in hospital after he was attacked in Larkhall last night.

The 64 year-old had left a pub on Raploch Street when he noticed a woman crying and stopped to speak to her, a man then appeared and punched him.

The man and woman then made off and headed along Union Street.

Police say he has been left with a serious facial injury.

The man is described as in his 40s and wearing dark clothing, then appeared and punched the victim, causing him to fall to the ground.

Emergency services were called and the victim was taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment to a facial injury and was later transferred to Monklands Hospital.

Detective Constable Christine McLanachan from Cambuslang CID said: “This was an unprovoked attack which left the victim with a serious facial injury and it is vital that we trace the man responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of where the incident took place last night, and may have witnessed what happened or noticed anything suspicious, to please get in touch.
