Appeal for help to trace missing 78-year-old Hamilton man

Police are looking for help from the public to trace a missing 78-year-old man from Hamilton.

William Rutherford was last seen on Bothwell Road between 11.30am and 1pm on Sunday 15th October.

Mr Rutherdord is white, 5ft7 in height, of slim to medium build and is balding with grey hair. He was wearing a navy jacket, dark blue trousers, black shoes and a grey flat cap.

Inspector Michael Anderson, East Kilbride Police Station, said:

"Mr Rutherford has not been missing before. He tends to frequent Hamilton Town Centre and also walk from his home to Strathclyde Country Park in Motherwell.

"Mr Rutherford, if approached, may appear confused, so we would ask that anyone who has seen him, to contact police as soon as possible.

"Officers have been checking CCTV since he was reported missing this evening and are liaising with bus and taxi companies in case they come across him.

"If you have any information that could help police trace Mr Rutherford, then please call police via 101 quoting reference number 2269 of Sunday, 15 October 2023."
